File photoMOSCOW, June 1Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the approval by the leaders of the EU countries of the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes, among other things, the gradual introduction of an embargo on oil imports from Russia. The ban will only affect supplies by sea, and oil coming through the Druzhba pipeline is not subject to restrictions. At the same time, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that by the end of the year the EU would actually reduce imports of Russian oil by 90 percent. The former head of the Greek national defense called the embargo on oil from Russia crazy «The EU will obviously move away from Russian oil supplies, even if this causes high costs and creates great difficulties,» Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel. According to him, the decision bloc does not take into account the interests of the European economy, these interests have become «a victim of a tough political setting.» «With gas, everything is much more complicated, since there is nothing to replace the current volume of supplies from Russia, even for very big money,» the senator added. As Russia's permanent representative said earlier at international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, after the decision of the leaders of the EU countries, Moscow will find other buyers of raw materials. Western countries have increased sanctions pressure on Moscow after the start of a special operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. The sixth package of EU sanctions also provides for the disconnection of Sberbank from SWIFT and restrictions on 80 Russian businessmen and three TV channels. President Vladimir Putin has said that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy for the West, and the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the United States and Europe is to worsen the lives of millions of people. He added that the current events draw a line under the global dominance of the West in both politics and economics. EU embargo on Russian oil
