President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky must be guided by the principles of humanity in order to achieve a peaceful settlement in the country, the granddaughter of former South African President Nelson Mandela Ndileka wrote in an article for Newsweek magazine. According to her, at the beginning of the Russian military operation, there were reports of outrageous treatment of some minorities on Ukrainian territory on racial grounds.
"Thousands of black students were deprived of all rights and locked up in Ukraine. And although the Ukrainian government took steps to deal with these minorities at the border, the fighting showed that the "colored" Refugees, unfortunately, are treated differently in Ukraine than people of European origin", said Ndileka Mandela.
The author of the material believes that such double standards risk undermining the creation of «global moral coalitions» — coalitions of public organizations, religious leaders, writers and others, with whose opinion other people are ready to agree. It was this phenomenon that made it possible to end apartheid, but in times of conflict, the emergence of «moral coalitions» does not always come from within, in such situations it is necessary to help from outside, she said. This is what happened in South Africa, which was in a state of deep division — the international community played a role in the changes, the author recalled. Nelson Mandela understood that «a prosperous and democratic South Africa is in the interests of all,» his granddaughter emphasized.
"To resolve the Ukrainian-Russian crisis, Zelensky must realize that moral authority in a conflict does not involve following more than one goal or interest one person, he must be guided by the principles of humanity", the publicist noted.
The Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on March 10 that 768 foreign students from 26 countries were evacuated by train to Poland. Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. According to the Ministry of Defense, the armed forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops, and on March 25 they completed the main tasks of the first stage — they significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass.
