"Our policy must be based on the understanding that that the Russian threat will not disappear tomorrow. There should be no return to business as usual. In fact, there should be no business at all,” Kallas said in an article for the British newspaper Telegraph.
In her opinion, the West should be careful with “premature calls for a ceasefire and peace.” Previously, she , while on a visit to London and referring to the situation in Ukraine, discussed with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson the possibility of creating a command structure at the level of a NATO division in Estonia and called on the alliance to fundamentally change its position in the field of defense and deterrence on the eastern flank. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova noted Callas' statements that «Ukraine currently needs weapons most of all» and that calls for a truce or peace in Ukraine are «premature and undesirable», for which Zakharova called her «bloodthirsty».
