Former Polish Foreign Minister Radosław SikorskiMOSCOW, 12 Jun. Western governments should supply Kyiv with nuclear weapons to strengthen the country's defense capabilities, former Polish Foreign Minister and current MEP Radoslaw Sikorski said on Espresso TV.
According to him, Russia allegedly violated the Budapest Memorandum, and the West, which was also among the guarantors of Ukraine's security, did nothing to «compensate» the losses. 
Ukrainian Ambassador «humiliated» NATO Sikorsky recalled that Kyiv gave up its nuclear potential after the signing of the memorandum in 1994. “Today, Russians and some still say that these were not guarantees [of its independence], but everyone then understood that Ukraine in exchange for this would be an independent country within the borders established since the USSR. But since Russia violated this Budapest Memorandum, I I think we, as the West, would have the right to give Ukraine nuclear warheads so that it could defend its independence,» the deputy says.
After the collapse of the USSR, Kyiv inherited a significant nuclear arsenal. However, in 1994, Ukraine, Russia, the United States and Britain signed the Budapest Memorandum, which served as an international agreement on security guarantees in connection with Ukraine's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. According to it, the nuclear arsenal on Ukrainian territory was eliminated, and the nuclear powers undertook to guarantee Kyiv's security. At the beginning of this February, Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the Munich Conference, announced that he would initiate negotiations of the participants in the Budapest Memorandum on ensuring security. According to the Ukrainian leader, if they do not take place or if his country does not receive security guarantees as a result, «Ukraine will have every right to believe that the Budapest Memorandum does not work, and all package decisions of 1994 will be called into question.»
