The United States compensated a multimillion-dollar sum in the case of corruption in FIFA

MOSCOW, Jul 2 The US Department of Justice has allocated about $92 million to the International Federation football (FIFA) as compensation for losses related to a case of corruption in the organization, according to the agency’s website. The funds were seized from the bank accounts of former FIFA officials, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the Confederation of Football of North and Central America (CONCACAF), who were found guilty of corruption. In August 2021, the ministry provided $201 million to FIFA, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF under the same scheme.»Today's distribution of funds underscores our commitment to returning money from corruption and fraud to victims of these crimes. Our office, in collaboration with law enforcement partners, will continue work to compensate victims of crime,» prosecutor Breon Peace said. In May 2015, several high-ranking FIFA officials were arrested in Zurich on charges of corruption. Accusers have spoken of widespread corruption within FIFA over the past two decades around World Cup bids, marketing and broadcast deals. The charges also included fraud, racketeering and money laundering. Charges were brought against more than 50 individuals and legal entities from more than 20 countries.
