The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the death of Novosibirsk physicist Dmitry Kolker, who died three days after his arrest in a treason case (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the head of «Agora» Pavel Chikov with reference to the lawyer Alexander Fedulov.
As Chikov clarified, farewell to Kolker took place today, despite the fact that the scientist died on the night of July 3. According to the daughter of the arrested person, the body was not released for a long time due to problems with documents. The scientist was detained on June 30 in a private clinic where he was being treated for stage four cancer. On the same day, the Soviet District Court of Novosibirsk arrested him. Then Kolker asked the investigator if he thought that the scientist would live until August 29th. The officer answered in the affirmative. Later it became known that a doctor from the regional hospital wrote a certificate stating that the detainee was diagnosed with a “prostate disease”, although he had pancreatic cancer. According to Chikov, now this therapist «urgently went on vacation.»
After Kolker's death, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) demanded that those responsible for the scientist's death be brought to justice. «"Club 1 July" expresses a strong protest against the actions of the investigating authorities in relation to the Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Kolker, ”the colleagues of the deceased wrote. And the court upheld the scientist's arrest.
