MOSCOW, Aug 1 Russian club captain of the National Hockey League (NHL)» Washington Capitals» Alexander Ovechkin is included among the four greatest athletes in the city of Washington according to The Sporting News magazine as part of the SN Rushmore project. Ovechkin stood on a par with Darrell Green (American football), Wes Unseld (basketball) and Walter Johnson (baseball). The SN Rushmore Project aims to identify four of the greatest athletes in the history of 13 US cities who have played in at least four of the top five leagues in North America (NHL, National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association and Women's National Basketball Association) for at least 20 years. Ovechkin is 36 years old. In 2018, he won the Stanley Cup with Washington. The Russian takes third place in the list of the best scorers in the history of the NHL regular season (780 goals), behind only Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801).
