File photoMOSCOW, Aug 2Vladimir Zelensky addressed the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal with a request to consider the issue of official registration of LGBT unions, follows from Zelensky's response to a petition to legalize same-sex marriages, published on the website of the head of state .As noted in the document, the petition has collected more than 25,000 signatures required for its consideration by the head of state. The very page of the petition states that it was supported by 28.5 thousand citizens of Ukraine. Zelensky expressed his gratitude to all of them «for their active citizenship.» Considering the above, I turned to the Prime Minister of Ukraine with a request to consider the issue raised in the electronic petition and inform about the relevant results,» Zelensky's response says. At the same time, he notes that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, marriage is based on the free consent of a man and a woman, and «in the conditions of martial law, the Constitution of Ukraine cannot be changed.» However, Zelensky draws attention to the fact that the government has already on the approval and provision of human rights and freedoms». He also states that «a family consists of persons who live together, are connected by a common life, have mutual rights and obligations.»
