Politician Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was arrested in April in the case of “fake news” about the army, was charged in the criminal case of an “undesirable” organization, which was brought against him on July 27. This was reported on his Facebook page by his lawyer Vadim Prokhorov.
Kara-Murza was charged under part 1 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code (carrying out the activities of a foreign organization, in respect of which a decision was made to recognize it as “undesirable”). The maximum penalty for it is four years in prison.

According to investigators, the politician held an annual conference on this topic on the eve of the political prisoner's day on October 27, 2021, on the money of the American Free Russia Foundation, which was recognized as «undesirable» at the Moscow Sakharov Center, Prokhorov wrote.
The website of the Sakharov Center says that a round table was held that day, which discussed the practice of repression in Russia, methods of protecting the persecuted, as well as the role of the international community in solving this problem .
Kara-Murza himself is in a pre-trial detention center in the case of «fakes» about the Russian army motivated by political hatred (paragraph «e» of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). Under this article, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
Kara-Murze is accused of speaking in the Arizona House of Representatives on March 15 about the “Putin regime”, which “drops bombs on residential areas, on hospitals and schools” in Ukraine. After the arrest, the politician was also recognized as a «foreign agent».
