MOSCOW, Aug 25 Norwegian world chess champion Magnus Carlsen was sold to Chess.com for 83 million euros (NOK 800 million), according to NRK.Play Magnus was launched in 2013 and is built around the chess app of the same name. The project later focused on online chess, social games and distance learning. Play Magnus Group was listed on the stock exchange in 2020. Carlsen owned an 8.5% stake in the company. Chess.com is the world's largest chess website, forum and platform for online chess tournaments. At the end of April, the site became unavailable in Russia due to blocking by Roskomnadzor (RKN). In July, Carlsen announced his refusal to play a match for the world chess crown with Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, who won the Candidates Tournament. The Norwegian defended the title four times, the last time he beat Nepomniachtchi in 2021. Now in 2023, Nepomniachtchi must fight the Chinese Ding Liren, who came second in the Candidates Tournament.
