MOSCOW, 15 Oct. Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk demanded that Western states create a European Tank Union to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is quoted by Welt.
"We are asking Chancellor Olaf Scholz to form a European Tank Alliance. There are 2,000 Leopard-2 tanks in a dozen countries. If each of these countries cedes about ten percent to Ukraine, we will be able to create an entire army of 200 or more vehicles,” the diplomat said.
Melnik complained that everything has to be ordered from Germany years in advance, because the waiting times heavy equipment is too big. As the ex-ambassador clarified, Kyiv needs long-term commitments from Berlin in the issue of supplying ships, corvettes, frigates and submarines, as well as fighter jets. In his opinion, the German military industry produces «the best weapons in the world.» The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, who was previously known for his scandalous statements, left Berlin after almost eight years of work and went to Kyiv. The diplomat was remembered for his sharp attacks on German politicians. He repeatedly criticized the German government on the issue of supplying weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and even posted on social networks a photo of a snail with a cartridge glued to the shell. The image was accompanied by the inscription «German weapons for Ukraine are on their way.» In addition, Melnik called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz «an offended liverwurst», claimed that the Nazi accomplice Stepan Bandera was a «freedom fighter», and denied his involvement in the massacres of Poles.Yesterday, 17:05Special military operation in UkraineThe United States told when Washington will abruptly change course on Ukraine
