Latvia to boycott International General Assembly if Russia is admitted

MOSCOW, Oct 17 The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) spoke on the official website with a statement in which he announced that he would boycott the general assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) if representatives of Russia or Belarus took part in it. Earlier, the Inside the Games portal reported that more than ten national Olympic committees (NOCs) spoke out against attending the general assembly delegations of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). The head of the ROC, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, plans to make a presentation at the forum with a report from the commission on education and culture. that Latvian athletes and representatives of the sports industry “are not obliged to participate in competitions and events together with Russian and Belarusian athletes and representatives of these states”, and that the LOK adheres to a “common state-unified position” that clearly and unambiguously defines the attitude towards the events in Ukraine. The ANOC General Assembly will be held October 18-21 in Seoul (South Korea). The International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the end of February recommended that sports federations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Most IFs have followed this recommendation.
