Earlier, American businessman Elon Musk expressed the opinion that Crimea is of critical importance for Russia's national security as a southern naval base. Musk believes that for Russia the loss of Crimea is the same as the loss of Hawaii and Pearl Harbor for the United States. «Musk should understand that Crimea for Russia is more than just a naval base. Crimea is not just an integral part of great Russia. This is a symbol of the Russian world and the unity of its peoples,» Gempel said. According to him, the Western community should heed Musk's words and stop challenging Russia's right to its historical lands, including Crimea, the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as the DPR and LPR.
