MOSCOW, Oct 19 greater risk of developing uterine cancer, according to the US National Institutes of Health. The study involved 33,000 women aged 35 to 74 years. It found that those who used chemical straighteners more than four times a year were 155% more likely to develop uterine cancer.
"1.64% of women who never used hair straighteners by 70 years of developing uterine cancer. But for women who use straighteners frequently, that risk rises to 4.05%", the study says.
Specialists noted that they did not study specific brands of hair products. Chemicals like parabens, bisphenol A, metals, and formaldehyde may be responsible for the increased risk of cancer, they say. They are able to enter the bloodstream through the scalp. Researchers have found no association with cancer in other hair products. Paint, brighteners or perm products do not cause such complications.
