MOSCOW, Oct 19 Researchers at University College London found that lack of sleep is deadly for the elderly, according to the journal Plos Medicine. As part of the study, scientists analyzed data from almost eight thousand people over 50 years old. According to lead author of the project, Dr. Severin Samba, sleeping less than five hours increases the risk of premature death in older people by 25%. In the presence of heart disease, cancer or diabetes — by 40%. Samba recommended sleeping from seven to eight hours a day. She added that less sleep increases the risk of developing chronic diseases.
