MOSCOW, Dec 16 Ukraine cannot provide light for about 50 % of consumers, including critical infrastructure, UNIAN reports with reference to Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center.
Earlier, Ukrenergo declared a state of emergency. According to him, on Friday there was a loss of more than 50% of the consumption of the interconnected energy system, which means the onset of a systemic accident mode.
As UNIAN reports with reference to the director of the Energy Research Center, this situation means that there is no technical possibility to provide about 50% of consumers with light, in particular critical infrastructure.
«That is, there is no way to either generate more energy or transport it,» Kharchenko quoted the agency as saying.
This means emergency power outages, adds UNIAN.
On Friday morning, an air raid alert was announced throughout Ukraine. Ukrainian media reported on explosions in various regions. The deputy head of the office of Vladimir Zelensky, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, said that due to damage to energy infrastructure facilities throughout the country, emergency power outages are being introduced. Poltava, Kremenchug, Korosten and Kirovograd region are de-energized.
