MOSCOW, 19 Dec After statements by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the Minsk agreements, Russia has every reason not to trust the words and signatures of European politicians, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
«There is probably not even a lack of trust, there is a lack of mutual trust. And, of course, we have every reason not to trust their words and signatures,» Peskov told Izvestia.
Words about the Minsk agreements Merkel (she held office from 2005 to 2021) said in an interview with the daily Die Zeit. She stated that «the 2014 Minsk agreement was an attempt to give Ukraine time.» Merkel added that she considered the entry of Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, which was discussed in 2008, wrong.
