MOSCOW, Dec 22 The United States may take action against Ukraine in its own interests, as it did with the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, Hill reports.
«At some point, the US will act in its own interests, perhaps, as the Trump administration did in the talks on the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan with the Taliban, not with the Afghan government,” wrote columnist Harlan Ullman.
He also added that some Pentagon officials describe the Ukrainian conflict as a battle of “big Russia against little Russia.”
«This means that Ukraine is unlikely to be able to defeat a strong Russia in the event of a prolonged conflict,» Ulman commented.
Speaking about the support of Ukraine from the White House and NATO countries, the journalist noted that it consists in providing Ukraine with military and other assistance sufficient for defense and survival. However, the aid packages are designed to avoid «the expulsion of Russia from all or most of the territories it controls in Crimea and Donbass and the provocation of an escalation by Moscow.»
«And while the United States and NATO have firmly agreed to support Ukraine, will this cohesion continue if the war continues for an extended period?» Ulman asked a question.
From February 24, Russia has been conducting a special operation to liberate Donbass from Kyiv nationalists. Vladimir Putin called its task «the protection of people who have been subjected to harassment and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.» and Zaporozhye regions. He assured that the state will ensure the security of new regions and restore the infrastructure destroyed by Ukrainian troops.
Against the background of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the United States and its NATO allies are supporting Kyiv with arms supplies, the programs cost tens of billions of dollars.
