MOSCOW, Dec 26 Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov, according to the Ukrainian edition of «Suspilne» (Public).
Earlier it was reported that a monument to the Russian Soviet writer Maxim Gorky was dismantled in the city.
«Following the monument to Gorky in the Dnieper, a monument to the Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov was also removed,» the publication wrote in its Telegram channel.
According to the publication, monuments to the Russian scientist and educator Mikhail Lomonosov, Lieutenant General Efim Pushkin and Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov will also be dismantled in the city in the near future. The mayor of the city, Boris Filatov, said that the monuments erected in Dnepropetrovsk, which are connected with Russia and the USSR, will be moved to the territory of the Zoocontrol utility company.
The dismantling of monuments related to Soviet history, as well as the renaming of streets, began in Ukraine in 2015, when a law on decommunization was adopted. Recently, the Ukrainian authorities have begun to fight not only with Soviet history, but with everything connected with Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that the Ukrainian authorities have been pursuing a policy of aggressive de-Russification and forced assimilation for many years.
