MOSCOW, Dec 29 Vladimir Zelensky signed the law «On Media» «, previously criticized by journalists and human rights activists, follows from the data on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
On the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the document entitled «Draft Law on Media» received the status «returned with the signature of the president.»
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second and final reading a bill on media, which was criticized, among other things, by Ukrainian deputies. According to the bill, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities will be able to fine and close any TV channel, newspaper or website if for some reason they do not like their information content.
According to Ukrainian MP Mykola Kniazhitsky, the «Law on Media» brings Ukraine back to Soviet times, when there was state television, or «Central Television», which was broadcast from Moscow, as it legitimizes the existence of the channel » Rada» as state television.
