MOSCOW, Dec 31 Nearly a third of Germans believe that the West it is necessary to take the initiative and convince Kyiv to start negotiations with Moscow on a truce, according to a survey conducted by the sociological company YouGov for the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
According to the results of the survey, 31% of respondents share this opinion. At the same time, 50% of the survey participants believe that the decision to start negotiations with Russia should be made only by the Ukrainian government.
As for the possible accession of Ukraine to the EU and NATO after the conclusion of a peace agreement, this option is supported by 31% of Germans. Another 13% believe that Ukraine needs to join only the EU, 10% believe that only joining NATO is enough. At the same time, 26% of respondents consider Ukraine's accession to NATO and the EU to be unnecessary.
It is noteworthy that in the east of the country the population is more skeptical: here 37% of respondents are against Ukraine's accession to NATO or the EU.
It is noted that 19% of survey participants have not decided on the answers to their questions.
The survey was held from December 16 to December 21, 2075 people took part in it.
