
Beijing, Jan 5 conditions for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming said in an interview.
«The SCO member states are united on the basis of common values and share the same or close positions on many important international and regional issues», — he said.
According to Zhang Ming, «after the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict, the SCO paid close attention to it and supported the countries concerned so that, focusing on the general situation in the region, they continued to work on eliminating differences, moving towards each other in the direction of searching for common interests, reached peace and settled the conflict by peaceful, political and diplomatic means.
The Secretary General noted that many SCO member states are ready to create favorable conditions for strengthening contacts between countries, «the proper settlement and solution of the problem.» «They also continue to make their own efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine,» Zhang Ming added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier that Kyiv is set to escalate, not negotiate. At the same time, the Kremlin agreed with the opinion of the West that the outcome of resolving the situation should be a just and lasting peace. However, Moscow does not yet see prospects for negotiations on a settlement.
