The Moscow City Court awarded 3,000 rubles to 23 detainees at rallies in support of politician Alexei Navalny due to conditions in the police. The decision was made in October; of the author of the Protestny telegram channel Moscow State University, Dmitry Ivanov, who was one of the plaintiffs.
The claim of those detained during the actions on January 31 and February 2, 2021 was considered in the Troitsky District Court, but it was rejected in the spring of 2022.
“In the DMIA [the detainees — MZ] were kept on the floor in the corridor of the department, access to the toilet was difficult, they were not provided with personal hygiene products,” the decision of the Moscow City Court says.The judge also noted that the detainees in the department they didn't give them food or bed linen, and the police wouldn't let a lawyer in to see them. The rest of the complaints, including the conditions in the special detention center, were rejected.
In Moscow, at a rally on January 31, 2021, which took place after Navalny was detained at the airport, more than 1,800 people were detained on February 2, on the day of the trial of the politician — more than 1,200. Moscow special detention centers were already overcrowded after the previous rally on January 23, because of this, the arrested were taken around the city in paddy wagons, many were taken to the special detention center in Sakharovo.
