The day before, during an attack on a settlement near the city of Beni, jihadists massacred fifteen civilians and burned their houses.
In total, since March 8, terrorists attacked five settlements, killing at that's over a hundred people. Thousands of civilians fled their homes fearing to become victims of IS militants. Officials at various levels called on the authorities of the DR Congo to bring security forces into the province to prevent further bloodshed.
In a statement regarding the massacres, the MTO noted that in this way the group is trying to achieve obedience or acceptance of Islam from the Christian population.
