Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which Russian citizens who simultaneously have Ukrainian citizenship are no longer considered Ukrainian citizens from the date of filing an application to waive a second passport. The document was published on the Internet portal of legal information.
Similarly, those who have previously applied to the Ukrainian authorities with such a request, but have not received a response, will also be able to renounce Ukrainian citizenship.
In May last year, the President signed a decree on the simplified granting of citizenship to orphans and disabled people from Ukraine, the Donetsk and Luhansk republics. People from Zaporozhye and Kherson regions can now also receive a document in a simplified manner.
In November 2022, the Russian departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued more than 100 thousand passports to residents of the territories of Ukraine annexed by Russia.
