MOSCOW, March 21The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation proposed to ban the import of plastic goods, there are 28 goods on the list, and a restriction on the production of such products within the country is also being considered, the Izvestia newspaper writes, citing sources in the department.
«Disposable tableware, plastic containers, cups, bags and cotton swabs may be subject to a ban on imports to the Russian Federation. A restriction on the production of such products within the country is also being considered. The initiative belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there are 28 products in the list, they are proposed to be replaced from a biodegradable counterpart, glass, paper and wood,» the newspaper reports.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed to Izvestia that such work is underway, controversial issues are being discussed with industries. The ministry also noted that the introduction of a ban on the production and supply of a number of plastic goods to the Russian Federation is provided for as part of the implementation of the federal project «Circular Economy», responsible — PIC «Russian Environmental Operator» (REO). Izvestia sent a request to the organization.
Also, the Ministry of Agriculture told the newspaper that the issue of limiting the use of certain types of packaging can be considered after analyzing its alternative types, which must comply with safety requirements for food products during the shelf life, and as well as industrial consumption. It is clarified that the cost of such materials should be economically feasible for the production of products for the population.
According to Izvestia, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is discussing the issue of switching to the use of alternative products in various segments of disposable products with representatives of the business community and specialized associations to determine its possibility and consequences.
