The Chairmanship of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute stated that it regards Russia's position regarding the issuance of an «arrest warrant» for Russian President Vladimir Putin as «an attempt to obstruct efforts to bring accountability».
The organization said they confirm «their trust in court» and «commitment to the principles enshrined in the Rome Statute».
Commenting on the decision of the ICC on the «arrest warrant», Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Za Kharova stated that the decisions of this structure are legally null and void for Russia, since the Russian Federation has never cooperated and does not intend to cooperate with it. A similar position was expressed by other Russian politicians.
Many countries, including Russia, China, India and the United States, are not members of the ICC.
