A retrospective of the works of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero is presented in Valencia, Spain. The exhibition, titled Sensuality and Melancholy, turned out to be the largest of its kind. Forty-five works are on display, ranging from works from the 1960s to watercolors that Botero created just a year ago at his home in Monaco.
Some of the works are from private collections and have never been exhibited before.
Marisa Oropesa, curator of the exhibition:
“We wanted to make a selection so that the visitor could plunge to the world of Botero. We always wanted to work on the topics that fascinated him the most, such as the universe of women, the plein air, which I think is fundamental to him, still lifes with disproportionate jugs, the way he wants them to be.”
< p>90-year-old Botero is called one of the most significant Latin American artists in history. He gained wide popularity in the middle of the last century. His style got its own name, Boterism. Paintings and especially sculptures of the Colombian can be found in cities around the world.
