The German brand's refreshed five-door is expected to appear in 2024. According to the plan, this model should “pull” a part of the Audi A4 audience, which will not have a direct successor.
Audi has been producing the A5 coupe, convertible and liftback since 2007, the cars of the current second generation are on the conveyor in 2017. Sales of the family (including the “charged” versions of the S5 and RS5) in Europe have been gradually declining since 2018. According to the Carsalesbase website, in January-November 2022 (data for the entire year are not yet available), dealers in the old-world market sold almost 21.5 thousand copies, which is 13.7% less than a year earlier. An updated version is expected next year: previously, a test mule of the refreshed Audi A5 Sportback has already been caught by photo spies.

The camouflaged prototype made it impossible to see the exterior details of the updated liftback. So far, there are no official details about how the new product will look like. The designer of the Spanish publication Motor.es presented his version of the potential appearance of the restyled five-door Audi A5 Sportback. p>Judging by the render, the liftback will receive a more modern design: it depicts the profile and stern of the future novelty, since it is assumed that the main changes in appearance will be concentrated here. It is likely that the A5 Sportback will retain its silhouette and arched roofline after the update, while it is assumed that the length and wheelbase of the novelty will grow by a few millimeters.
One of the main differences in the design of the stern will be new lights: they can get a narrower and smoother shape, and in addition, they will probably be connected to each other across the entire width of the fifth door using a die tapering in the center. The design of the rear optics will be different, although it will retain the idea of luminous broken strokes.

It is assumed that the front of the Audi A5 Sportback will be updated due to the head optics of a narrower shape and with a different light signature, as well as a wider branded radiator grille. In addition, the updated liftback can get a different trapezoidal air intake.
The restyled Audi A5 Sportback will continue to be based on the MLB Evo platform. According to preliminary data, petrol and diesel modifications (2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI, working in tandem with a 12-volt starter-generator, as well as a V6 3.0 diesel) will remain in the range. PHEV versions are expected to appear in the range, while the maximum range when driving on electric power alone will be about 100 km. Presumably the refreshed «five-door» will enter the market in the fall of 2024.
