LG Recognized as a High-End Supplier of Automotive Components

LG Electronics (LG) is the first to certify the quality of its products against international testing standards for functional safety and cybersecurity for driving vehicles. LG receives the required certifications annually from the world's leading test organization TÜV Rheinland by testing its hardware and software solutions for electric vehicle components.

As a recognized player in the fast-growing electric vehicle components industry, LG has consistently complied with international regulations and participated in key certification programs. In order to lead the way in vehicle safety, LG is committed to strengthening its technical capabilities, both at the employee and organization levels.

LG Development Engineer Kim Min-kyu recently qualified as an Automotive Functional Safety Expert, becoming the second most qualified since the program's inception in 2011. In addition, LG received the 4M (Material, Method, Machine, Person) Functional Safety Certification for its ADAS front camera in 2022. The company's vehicle components also comply with the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) — Regulation No. 155 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) (UN R155).

«Due to the growing importance of vehicle safety and security regulations in the global automotive industry, certification of our automotive components and technologies is key to staying competitive,» — said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle component Solutions (VS). “LG will continue to meet the latest standards and grow its capabilities to provide our customers with even more reliable solutions.” “We congratulate LG on making their employee the first functional safety expert in Asia, a success that reflects the company's outstanding, all-round achievements backed by industry-leading certifications,” — said Frank Juettner, CEO and director of TÜV Rheinland Korea. «Obtaining the latest certifications, including ISO/SAE 21434, demonstrates LG's commitment to providing its customers and partners with the highest level of product and system security.»

LG has an excellent track record of maintaining a high level of quality and reliability in its innovations. Already in 2018, the company received technical certification for functional safety management (FSM) in the development of infotainment systems, and in 2021, its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) front camera was assessed based on ISO 26262 – international standard for functional safety for the development of electrical and electronic systems for vehicles.

LG also plans to lead the future trends in autonomous driving, which will be centered on the rapidly growing area of Safety Intended Functionality (SOTIF). SOTIF is growing in importance as the entire automotive industry seeks to implement and expand the use of various advanced technologies in their vehicles, including artificial intelligence (AI), high-definition maps, sensor data interfaces, and cybersecurity applications.
