The city of Norilsk, located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, has become the top Russian air pollutant city in Russia in 2022. This is reported by Rosprirodnadzor, according to the report on activities in 2022.
Total emissions of pollutants in Norilsk in 2022 amounted to 1.8 million tons, which is 10.5% of the total emissions throughout the Russian Federation.
In addition, the top 10 Russian polluting cities included Cherepovets — 270 thousand tons, Novokuznetsk — 263 thousand tons, Lipetsk — 262 thousand tons, urban-type settlement Reftinsky — 225 thousand tons, Mezhdurechensk — 198 thousand tons, Magnitogorsk — 173 thousand tons -, Vorkuta — 168 thousand tons, Irkutsk — 132 thousand tons and Ufa — 132 thousand tons.
