«According to our data, at the moment the share of Russians who have a card of foreign banks in their hands has exceeded 11%. Let us recall that a year earlier there were no more than 3%. According to our forecasts, this year the share of Russians who have issued a card in foreign banks will will reach 15%, thus, every sixth or seventh economically active citizen will have an account opened in a foreign bank,» the study says.
It is noted that about a third of Russians who issued a card of a foreign credit organization chose banks in Kazakhstan (36%), another 16% — in Turkey. Every tenth opened a card in Georgia, 6% — in Armenia, every twentieth — in Belarus. Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan account for a total of 12%, the rest of the countries — 15%.
At the same time, analysts explain the low share of Belarus by the fact that the Russians feared the imposition of sanctions against its credit institutions and preferred to opt for more «neutral» countries.
In 59% of cases, Russians named the need to have a convenient means of payment for settlements abroad or in foreign online stores as the purpose of obtaining a foreign bank card, in 30% — for storing funds abroad, in 11% — just in case.
About 34% of Russians visited the country of the issuing bank to obtain a card, and 66% managed to do it remotely. More than half of the citizens who issued a foreign card (56%) spent from 30 to 60 thousand rubles on issuing a card, including transportation costs, 28% — no more than 30 thousand rubles, 10% — from 60 to 90 thousand rubles, 6% — over 90 thousand rubles.
The study was conducted among 1.9 thousand adult Russians with a steady income and living in cities with a population of over one million people.
