Members of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption submitted amendments to the State Duma to toughen penalties for terrorism and treason. Vasily Piskarev, deputy of the lower house of the Russian parliament from United Russia, reports this.
Parliamentarians propose to increase to 20 years the maximum sentences under articles on committing terrorist acts (Article 205 of the Criminal Code) and sabotage (Article 281 of the Criminal Code). The deputies also want to toughen the punishment under the article on international terrorism from 10 to 12 years (Article 361 of the Criminal Code), as well as to raise the minimum threshold under the article on promoting terrorism to seven years (Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code) and to 10 years under the article on organizing a terrorist community. (Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code).
In addition, Piskarev and his colleagues on the committee propose to establish life imprisonment under the article on high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code).
“Increasing the thresholds for punishment, firstly, provides for it serving in institutions with a special regime of imprisonment, and secondly, the right to parole for those who are sentenced to life, appears no earlier than after 25 years and subject to exemplary behavior, ”the deputy wrote in his telegram channel.
Piskarev also noted that the State Duma can «consider them (the proposed amendments — MZ) promptly», since they are prepared for the bill, which has already passed the first reading.
