The State Duma immediately supported the bill in the second and third readings, which introduces a life sentence under the article on high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). The meeting is broadcast on the website of the lower house of parliament.
The text of the amendments appeared in the database of the State Duma the day before. In addition to toughening the punishment under the article on treason, the deputies introduced several more toughenings.
In particular, Article 284.3 will appear in the Criminal Code (providing “assistance in the execution of decisions” of international organizations in which the Russian Federation does not participate, or foreign state bodies). Sanctions on it will include a fine in the amount of 300 thousand to 1 million rubles or imprisonment for up to 5 years.
The maximum punishment of Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code (terrorist attack) is being tightened — from 15 to 20 years. Punishment under the article on assistance to terrorism (article 205.1 of the Criminal Code) is also changing: under the first part, the courts will be able to appoint not up to 5 years in prison, but up to 7; for the second part — up to 12 (instead of 10 in the previous edition).
The terms for participation in a terrorist community are also changing (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code) — now they will be from 10 to 15 years, instead of from 5 to 10 years before.
Changes are also being made to the article on sabotage (281 of the Criminal Code). The maximum penalty for the first part is increased to 20 years (instead of 15 years earlier). A new paragraph is added to the second part of this article — now courts will be able to appoint from 12 to 20 years in prison for sabotage, “associated with encroachment on objects of the federal executive body in the field of defense, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the troops of the national guard of the Russian Federation, state authorities involved to perform certain tasks in the field of defense, as well as to the facilities of the fuel and energy complex and organizations of the military-industrial complex.
