The Moscow City Court upheld the verdict against oppositionist Ilya Yashin in the case of military «fake news». This is reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.
Ilya Yashin's fake case. Appeal against the sentence
In December 2022, the politician was sentenced to 8.5 years in a penal colony. Yashin pleaded not guilty, in his last speech he called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
The reason for initiating the case was the April stream on YouTube, during which Yashin spoke about the killings of civilians by the Russian military in the Ukrainian city of Bucha (paragraph Article 207.3 Part 2 (d) of the Criminal Code).
According to the prosecution, the politician spoke about the murders, although he was “reliably aware” that the photographs of dead people were a provocation of the “Kyiv regime”.
Yashin was detained and sent to a pre-trial detention center in the summer of 2022. Shortly before his arrest, his colleague, the municipal deputy of the Krasnoselsky district, Alexei Gorinov, was sentenced to seven years in prison in the same case of «fake» about the army.
