BERLIN, Apr 21 The People's Republic of China, despite its rivalry with the West, remains the most important trading partner for the world and, in particular, Germany, said the German Finance Minister and Free Democratic Party (FDP) chairman Christian Lindner at a party congress.
«The People's Republic of China has become a systemic rival, with a demand for global dominance. We do trade with China, and China is an important counterpart in world trade, it's hard to overestimate its importance for the German economy,» Lindner said at the FDP congress, broadcast on the social networks of the party.
The German minister urged to be realistic and admit that this reality cannot be changed in the short term. In this context, Lindner emphasized the importance of developing other regions of the world.
«And then you won't have to unilaterally withdraw from trade relations with China. So China remains an important partner in economic issues,» he said.
According to Lindner, at the same time, Germany's liberal values should be respected and Beijing should be pointed out to its violations of international rights.
