MOSCOW, 21 Apr. The Russian Ecological Operator has developed a GOST for the disposal of organic waste, including expired food and food leftovers, the company's press service said on Friday.
“Back in 2020, the REO started developing national standards that take into account the minimum requirements for waste management. Rosstandart registered GOST “Resource Saving. Waste management. Guidelines for the disposal of organic fractions of municipal solid waste using composting methods,» the press service of the Director General of the REO Denis Butsaev quotes.
According to the company, the new standard will ensure the production of products in demand in various areas of economic activity, such as fertilizers and nutrient soils, when disposing of household waste. GOST will come into force on June 1, 2023.
According to the REA, 18 waste composting facilities with a total capacity of 2.2 million tons per year have been put into operation in Russia. By 2030, it is planned to build additional composting facilities for at least 12 million tons of waste per year.
The «garbage» reform began in Russia on January 1, 2019. The key task of the REO, created in the same year, is to oversee the reform and form an integrated system for handling municipal solid waste in Russia.
