MOSCOW, 28 Apr. Leather shorts by the leader of the British rock band Queen Freddie Mercury sold at auction for almost 14.5 thousand pounds
According to the auction house, along with the wardrobe item, the buyer, who decided to remain anonymous, received a letter confirming the authenticity of the shorts and a book about Queen, How It All Began. It was written by the head of the band's fan club, Jackie Smith, and the band's biographer, Jim Jenkins.
Freddie Mercury's shorts were remembered by the audience at a sold-out concert in Birmingham in December 1980. The musician went to them for an encore.
«Freddie decided to try and shock the audience with his stage outfit for the encore: the shortest, tightest pair of black leather shorts he could find. They left little to the imagination, but no one complained,» wrote the writers in book How It All Began.
In the near future, fans of Mercury will again have the opportunity to purchase his memorabilia.
From August to September, Sotheby's will auction more than a thousand of the musician's items: the musician's crown and cape, jacket, mustache comb, rose-colored star-shaped glasses and much more.
