The court arrested a graduate student from St. Petersburg who set fire to the museum, thinking that he was carrying out the mission of the FSB

The Pushkinsky District Court of St. Petersburg arrested a local resident Alexei Gribanov for two months, who is accused of hooliganism motivated by political hostility (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the press service of the city courts.

According to investigators, on April 26, Gribanov doused the facade of the Historical and Literary Museum of the city of Pushkin with flammable liquid and set it on fire. He did this with «clear disrespect for society» and together with «unidentified accomplices.» The man tried to escape, but, according to Fontanka, he was detained by police a kilometer from the place of arson.

The publication reported that Gribanov is 25 years old, he is a graduate student of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. According to Fontanka, during interrogation, the man said that he set fire to the museum at the behest of unknown people. They allegedly said that a loan had been drawn up for him, promising to free the Petersburger from the debt. Then the unknown people reported that he had received a summons and suggested that Gribanov “take revenge” by setting fire to the military enlistment office and the military commissar’s car.

A graduate student agreed to set fire to a museum located across the street from the Defense Ministry site. At the same time, according to Fontanka, “he managed to shout a Ukrainian patriotic greeting.” After that, according to the publication, Gribanov expected that he would be “congratulated on a successful mission by the FSB.”

Mediazona said that 16 similar stories are known throughout Russia. People set fire to military enlistment offices and bank branches, not hiding from cameras and police, and after being detained, they tell implausible stories, which often involve debts or loans.
