300 euros per meter: old huts began to be dismantled for design materials

The Most Expensive Village Houses to Demolish

Despite continued urbanization, village houses and the «private sector» small towns are in high demand in the real estate market. True, more and more often old huts are being demolished: they are uncomfortable, unfashionable and too neglected. However, it turned out that the «garbage» resulting from the demolition of such houses – old logs, boards and «carpentry» – costs a lot of money. Let's say the price of antique handmade floorboards can reach 300 euros per linear meter! «MK» learned about the most expensive elements of houses for demolition.

The most expensive elements of village houses to be demolished

Many owners who have bought or inherited a plot along with an old log house give away all their wood waste «for pickup.» Practically — for firewood. Because wood is not scrap metal (the price of which in rural areas is known to everyone).

Nevertheless, wood is sometimes very valuable. Especially when it comes to dry wood, seasoned – and if the house is not rotten and has stood for more than 50 years, the tree will be just like that.

– For the manufacture of more or less decent furniture, dried wood is required, this is a big shortage, and it is highly valued, – says cabinetmaker Ilya Mokhov. – We are talking about hardwoods: oak, ash, walnut, beech, hornbeam. It is this kind of wood that is usually searched for in demolished wooden huts.

It is not usually the logs themselves that are valued – they were in most cases made from «simple» conifers – and elements of decoration and built-in furniture of traditional huts, the interlocutor of «MK» emphasized. The most common of these – oak floorboards, often handmade (not made in sawmills) work. These can be found in houses of pre-revolutionary construction – there are still many of them in the villages of the Tver, Yaroslavl, and Kostroma regions.

At the same time, antique boards can also be used for their intended purpose: for the manufacture of flooring and wall panels during designer repairs. For example, recently photos of a new house built for himself by architect Dmitry Ovcharov appeared on social networks: the facades and even the roof are lined with old unpainted wood. And the price of antique floorboards in specialized stores is up to 300 euros per linear meter, the interviewees of MK said. contractors. True, if you buy such a product directly, it can come out much cheaper.

– I really wanted a floor made of old boards, for several reasons at once, — said Natalya, the owner of a townhouse near Moscow. – Firstly, it is beautiful, and secondly, it hides the irregularities and roughness that arise in any case, that is, it is practical. I saw this option at a party and fell in love. But the price in a store that sells antique materials, of course, did not suit me. Then I turned to the carpenters working in Vyshny Volochek, and they picked up exactly the boards that I needed. After custom fitting, I got the best floor in the world, and I spent about 30 thousand on materials, including shipping.

Another element of old wooden houses that is in high demand, – platbands. Here the price is «on the spot» is about 5000 rubles per piece. However, the value of these decorative elements in the villages is already being realized: suffice it to say that there are services for the restoration of architraves and new-made elements. So, unlike floorboards, you won’t be able to buy cheap architraves.

Most often, this kind of building materials end up in the hands of teams that are ordered to dismantle the old hut. “I can bring floorboards, and shingles, and rafter logs, and not only, – says Ivan, a foreman of dismantling workers from the Rostov district of the Yaroslavl region. – If there is an order, it is possible to get stove fittings, and tiles, and much more that is in the attics. production. “I managed to collect a lot of old rustic furniture from a demolished house, – says Muscovite Anna, who has a dacha in Taldom. – I was just driving by and saw how they were breaking the hut. And in the middle of the boards were benches, stairs, even an old icon case for a large icon. I asked if I can pick it up. The brigadier said: yes, everything except scrap metal.

In other words, the market for old building materials from village houses has not yet formed, but already exists. And in a few years, it is quite possible that it will be as orderly as the market for old bricks, tiles and similar “urban” ones. materials. This cannot but rejoice – but, for the sake of profit, will the still standing village houses be dismantled for «valuable firewood»? After all, even with the Colosseum, this almost happened …
