The Russian Ministry of Defense published a video on its Telegram channel, which provides details about the death of the commander of the 4th motorized rifle brigade, Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov, also known for call sign «Barnaul».
Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov personally led the battle near the village of Krasnoe, through which the Ukrainian military tried to break through to Artemivsk, the message says.
The Russian defense department stressed that the enemy failed to break the defense of the Russian forces and lost about two hundred servicemen here.
«Unfortunately, the brave brigade commander died in this battle,» the message says.
On the eve of the Russian Ministry of Defense noted that under the command of Colonel Makarov, Russian fighters repelled two attacks, two enemy attacks, destroyed three tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, two armored vehicles. «Barnaul» was wounded during the third attack and died during the evacuation from the battlefield.
It was also reported the day before that Colonel Yevgeny Brovko, deputy commander of the army corps for military-political work, who also led the defense.
