WARSAW, May 22.Poland is ready to stop importing propane-butane (LPG gas) from Russia only simultaneously with all countries of the European Union, Petr Muller, spokesman for the Polish government, told reporters.
Currently, Poland does not receive from Russia such types of fuel as natural gas, oil, coal.
«Competencies regarding the imposition of sanctions on individual products, in this case, belong to the Council of the European Union. In this regard, at the moment there is no such decision, so there is no such ban,» Muller said.
Answering the question why Poland cannot single-handedly abandon LPG, although it once stopped importing Russian coal without waiting for the decision of Brussels, he said that this decision «was due to certain the risks that the government decided.»
«In this regard, if it comes to decisions regarding the ban on the import of LPG gas, we expect that it will be solidary within all the countries of the European Union,» the spokesman for the Polish government concluded.
On February 25, the European Union introduced the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which expanded export-import and personal restrictions, as well as new bans on the work of Russian media. The European Commission has estimated a new package of sanctions at 11.4 billion euros. At the same time, the EU noted that now the EU's exports to Russia have decreased by almost half compared to the level of 2021, and imports to the EU have been cut, respectively, by almost 60%.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containment and weakening of Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Russia has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
