SIMFEROPOL, May 24. Head of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov said that the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 looked extremely immoral, since the Crimeans were then treated like serfs.
Earlier, Konstantinov instructed to work out an appeal to the Constitutional Court of Russia to cancel the decree of 1954 on the transfer of the peninsula to Ukraine. According to him, the process of transferring the Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 was not legally formalized, the violations committed are so gross and flagrant that the rationale for canceling the decision will not take much time.
«It was a real feast of lawlessness. The process of handing over the peninsula looked extremely immoral: people were treated like serfs. Or, as it used to be compared, they were handed over like a sack of potatoes. No one even thought to ask what their preferences were what the transferred residents want,» Konstantinov said at a session of the Crimean parliament on Wednesday.
According to him, nine years ago Crimea was returned to where it should be — to the Russian Federation, and the process of its transfer and being part of Ukraine was undemocratic and illegitimate.
«Perhaps, it was from that moment that this Crimean peculiarity was finally formed — to live and do everything according to the law. This is a consequence of what was done to us then. At the same time, from 1954, the Crimean idea arose, the meaning of which is the restoration historical justice, the return of Crimea to Russia. This became the dream of several generations of Crimeans and was realized by us in 2014,» Konstantinov said.
