MOSCOW, May 25 South African Joan Lefson made a fortune thanks to paintings painted by her pig named Pigkasso, Travel + Leisure reported.
One of the last works of the pet was sold at auction for 20 thousand dollars. It became the most expensive painting ever made by an animal. Pigcasso broke the 2005 Congo Chimpanzee record, whose painting was valued at $19,000.
Joan Lefson saved a pig from being slaughtered and adopted it on her farm a few years ago. One day, she accidentally forgot her brushes and paints in the paddock, and later discovered that her pet was interested in them.
«You can't look at this and not appreciate her intelligence, personality and creativity,» her owner commented on Pigkasso's work.
She added that all the proceeds from the paintings will go to the maintenance of the farm, where animals saved from death live.
The practice of selling paintings painted by animals exists all over the world. For example, the most famous artist among dogs was a terrier named Tilly. She does not use brushes and paints for her work, but only claws and teeth. The cost of a result resembling a lithograph can cost several thousand dollars.
