MOSCOW, May 29. Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya said that did not expect the negative reaction of French fans to the refusal of her compatriot Marta Kostyuk to shake hands with the Belarusian Arina Sabolenko after the match at the French Open.
On Sunday, Kostyuk lost to Sobolenko in the first round of Roland Garros. After the meeting, the stands booed the Ukrainian for refusing the traditional handshake.
“We are not going to shake hands with Russian and Belarusian players. But I didn’t expect such a reaction from people to the fact that Marta didn’t shake hands with Sobolenko. It was not very pleasant. I support the rejection of handshakes, I played against Russians and didn't shake hands either. This is our position, and everyone knew about it, so there's nothing wrong with that,» Yastremska said at a press conference.
