The European Union has imposed sanctions against Igor Chaika, a Russian businessman and son of former Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, due to the «destabilization» of the Republic of Moldova, according to the EU official journal.

According to the European Union, Chaika Jr. is responsible for financing “FSB projects aimed at destabilizing Moldova”, and also supported actions “threatening the sovereignty, independence, democracy, rule of law and stability of the republic.”

The EU also introduced restrictions against Moldovan politicians and oligarchs Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor, accused in Moldova on fraud cases, the latter’s deputy Marina Trauber and the leader of the Building Europe at Home party, Georgy Cavkalyuk.
