The Novocherkassk City Court of the Rostov Region fined neurologist Ivan Churinov 800,000 rubles in the case of painted over pro-war banners. This was reported by OVD-Info with reference to the press service of the court.
Churinov was found guilty of «discrediting» the armed forces, which caused material damage (Part 2 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). There were two episodes in the case.
According to investigators, Churinov and his acquaintance Anton Bykov, whose case has been separated into a separate proceeding, traveled around the Rostov region at night from September 11 to September 18 and threw banners with images of participants in the invasion of Ukraine with bundles of paint. According to OVD-Info, Bykov later emigrated to Georgia. During interrogation, Churinov told the security forces that he decided to spoil the pro-war banners under the influence of Bykov.
A resident of Novocherkassk was detained in October. The FSB officers claimed that he “realized the wrongfulness of his actions and repented,” and also expressed his readiness to “go on a special operation as a medical volunteer.” In May, his criminal case was submitted to the court.
