The number of deaths from poisoning alcoholic drink «Mr. Cider» in the regions of the Volga region has increased to 30 people, follows from a press release from the Ministry of Health of the Ulyanovsk Region.
So, in the Ulyanovsk region itself, 20 dead are known. Earlier it was also reported that due to alcohol poisoning, seven people died in the Samara region, two in the Nizhny Novgorod region and one from Udmurtia.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are 31 more residents of the Ulyanovsk region in the hospital. It is also known about three victims in the Penza region — these are girls 17 and 18 years old with signs of poisoning. There are victims in other regions, including Chuvashia.
The first information about deaths in the Volga region due to alcohol appeared on the evening of June 5th. According to the preliminary version, the cause was the drink «Mr. Cider», which the victims bought in the stores «Beer Territory» and «Birrhouse». As part of the investigation, Samara businessman Anar Huseynov, the founder of Andi LLC, which supplied alcohol, was detained.
Experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs identified methanol and ethyl butyrate impurities in the alcoholic beverage in proportions that pose a threat to health. The drink began to be withdrawn from stores throughout Russia.
