MOSCOW, June 10. More than 20,000 ancient objects have been found in the Slavyansky District in the Kuban, the press service of the administration of the Krasnodar Territory reports.
They were discovered during excavations at an archaeological heritage site. «This is a Meotian settlement of the 6th-5th centuries BC and three burial grounds,» the publication specifies.
It was a small manufacturing center. This is evidenced by the found burning furnace and utility pits. Gray-clay vessels are evidence of ceramic production.
The press service recalled that the people who lived near the «Meotian swamp» (now the Sea of Azov) were called Meots. «Their appearance is connected with the colonization of the Taman Peninsula by the Greeks and the development of trade,» the press service added. The settlement disappeared in the 3rd century BC.
After 200 years, a soil burial ground of the tribes of the late Meotian culture was created here. Archaeologists have found the burial of a warrior with a short iron sword with a ring pommel. The prototype of the blade may be the weapon of the army of ancient China. Meotian craftsmen copied it and made it for sale.
As Roman Luzinov, deputy governor of the region, noted, the study was related to the construction of a new highway from the village of Maryanskaya in the Krasnoarmeisky district to the farm of Bely Temryuksky district.
