The Kansk inter-district prosecutor's office recognized as legal the actions of the employees of the local SIZO-5, whose violence was reported by English teacher Vitaly Barinov, who was sentenced to two years in prison for shooting at a pro-war banner. According to the document, the Investigative Committee and the police carried out checks into the use of “unauthorized methods of influence by the employees of the pre-trial detention center and persons held in the pre-trial detention center” against Barinov. Both departments found no violations.
In his last letter to human rights activist Anna Tazheeva, the teacher said that he was threatened with new criminal cases, including under the article on incitement to extremism. “This is when several prisoners collaborating with the administration unanimously write a denunciation at the behest that such and such in their presence said this and that,” Barinov explained the possible course of further events.
As the teacher noted earlier English, in the pre-trial detention center he was required to confess to a crime that he did not commit. “I refused, which made them very upset (of course, they didn’t use any violence against me) then, on the way to the cell, I stumbled and, falling, cut my forehead and broke my leg,” the teacher wrote . As a result, Barinov spent 26 days in the hospital. Then he was returned to the Kansk pre-trial detention center, and on April 21 the court announced the verdict. “Most likely, I will again slip and fall, breaking my face,” the teacher suggested.
